ex-pat
Back when i was a child.. I ever wanted to be a teacher just like my aunts and also to fulfil my dad's utmost dream of becoming a teacher. I never thought of becoming a nurse. I actually hate the nurse who gave me those vaccines back then. I am scared because their face resembles like a needle to me.. funny because after two decades, here i am working as a nurse... working miles away from home. Dati, ang wish ko sa buhay ay makasakay lang ng airplane, makakita lang ng snow at makipag-kaibigan sa ibang lahi. di ko naman inexpect na makapag-aral sa ibang bansa, makapasyal sa ibat-ibang lugar, maranasan kung paano maging isang OFW.. before i never understood why OFWs are called heroes... When i experienced to be one of them, yeah.. i think we should be called heroes... We are heroes not because of our salary.. its because we endure being away from our love ones, homesickness, we think twice weather to eat in a fancy resto or buy things because once we convert the price into peso we will say SAYANG... OFWs are heroes because they want the best for their family.. And I salute to every OFWs like me who continues to give the best for their family and for their country. Pero sana may ma-generate na trabaho ang government so that we dont need to be away from our families..
Cancer-y story
A person close to me(a.k.a. XYZ) is experiencing the worst scenario ever. Her brother was diagnosed to have Liver Cancer which has been metastasized to his pancreas. Her sister on the other hand has breast mass. I received this news through a conversation with my father two days ago. I was bothered why she didnt let me know. As i ended my conversation with my dad, i felt sorry for XYZ and her family. and i cant help but cry after the phone call. XYZ's brother is still young i think he is still on his late 30's with wife and 3 wonderful kids one of which is my god daughter who is still going to enter teenage years. While her sister's sons are still very very young. I think they have endured a lot of hardships this year not to mention how their first Nursing graduate flunked the boards. Its so uneasy to tell them everything will be fine if you know that not everything is fine... I dont have a sibling and i dont exactly know the feeling of having one but i know the pain that a person endures when someone close to him is feeling the worst kind of pain ever. I hope God will give them grace and strength.. I am still hoping for the better... I still hope everything will be fine soon.
feels like the first blog entry
Whoa!! Is that for real??? Seems that i havent blogged for years. sorry multiply and blogspot!! farmville and fish world makes me rich kahit sa social network sites lang whilst twitter kept me updated with the tweets of the celebs i follow.. and yeah not to mention WORK WORK and WORK.. and now i dont know what and how will i start a blog after few months of not blogging...
I realized that i have been away from home for 6 months and 3 days, 6 months to go for my annual leave, 84 days to go before we say goodbye to 2009, 77 days to go before Christmas, and 9 days to go before my birthday..(yay!!).
I have been very ambivalent these past few weeks. Sharing my blessings gives me some feeling of fulfilment. Shopping for my family makes me so excited as i fill up the balikbayan box for home. Experienced my first light snow. Travels. Love Life. Friends. But sometimes, somehow i dont know what happiness means whenever thoughts are rushing to my brain cells ....that I wont be seeing my dogs anymore, .....that i will be celebrating my birthday without the closest persons in my life ....that my countrymen experienced the worst typhoon ...that i keep on receiving some bad news back home ...that i missed my family and i badly wanted to go home soon...
Life is really unfair.... Life gives the best and the worst of both worlds... We know how to manage the good things in life but how can we make the worst to become better??? I hope to find happiness soon even just a little...

theres more to life
Know the feeling
of losing something great?
Then realising that,
suddenly, u have
something u wanted all along
without really knowing
HOW u got it
WHY u have it
or even
that u BELONG?
That's how it felt, joining FMC.
I am so grateful and it's so surreal.
Napaisip lang ako sa church while taking down some notes. Minsan may mga bagay na nangyayari lang, kaya maganda nga siguro kung paminsan minsan, i-review natin ung events sating buhay.

kung hei huat chai
The 5 things we can do to clean up our act!
1. the guts to eat the right stuff. junk tastes gooood but try drinking as much water as you can. then watch what you take in cos it can make you or break you. an electric juicer is still the best tool for gulping up the desired, but often dreaded, greens :)

TIP: don't make the mistake of trying to process fresh malunggay into a shot glass... malakas pala tama nun para kang nag tequila!!!

2. get out of your comfort zone... do something. do one thing every week that scares you. slap yourself when you get crazy lazy & it's not an official holiday. shake your boo-tay when you like the music you hear, cos angels aside, you are down and depressed sometimes! think of what, in the 9 lives of a cat, you believe in... you have to believe in SOMETHING... make yourself useful. puwera plastikan.

3. compliment someone (and mean it). I read this somewhere before and it's so great. there isn't a snowball's chance in hell you wouldn't get a kick out of it-- it works with anyone cos everyone is somewhat vain and wants a compliment! how bout saying THANK YOU to someone... or making a peace offering... there has to be someone you haven't talked to in a while?
make peace, not war. make loooove, not war.

4. find something to LIKE. a new film? song? out of the box idea? a new dream job? a new tambayan? something about your PAST? laugh. try it now, smile. makes you feel good already i'm sure. laugh cos something's funny, laugh cos you find something ridiculous. laugh cos it's good for you. laugh cos you can.

5. never allow anyone to say you don't have a BACKBONE. take a break. know when & why you have to be fair to yourself. know how to cry whether out of relief or remorse. know when something is hurting you. know when something is an act of truth or just an act, period. know when something is, or isn't, good for you. don't stress yourself out about it all... rest, and try to see why you should be proud of your decisions.

what are YOUR new year's resolutions?

fun websites for wasting time
With all the time i spend on the internet, i've come across sites- some f them by suggestion, some randomly that probably fall under the coolest, the weirdest, and the most useless. Although they're not good things to have on your desktop when trying to meet deadlines, these sites are perfectly for whiling away lazy Sunday afternoons or sleepless weeknights.
MUSICOVERY---- www.musicovery.com
-- more than an online radio that lets you choose what you want to listen to based on genre (jazz, world, electro, reggae, etc), mood (dark, calm, energetic, positive) or tempo in every era, starting from the '50s, Musicovery is probably the best online music library up on the web right now. The best thing about it is each song branches out to connect to other songs of the same type or genre, allowing for discovery of new tracks and new artists. Since introduced to it early this year, I've discover electro artists such as Yelle, Justice and Funk for Sale and reunited with Technotronic, Morcheeba and A Reminiscent Drive. There are no download options, however, which can either be a good or not-so-good thing, depending on your principles on Internet music.
UNCYCLOPEDIA---- http:uncyclopedia.wikia.com
-- A parody of Wikipedia, Uncyclopedia is a collection of satirical articles or write ups that just plainly promote hilarious falsehoods. Someone writes about Britney Spears writing a children's book; sounds fairly feasible, right, until you learn that it's about a nine year old named Paula who experiments with drugs and hairless hairstyles, among others. Then theres a lengthy article on US President-elect Obama's Cabinet considerations: one "would have stored spices magnificently" in his kitchen while another, a mahogany display cabinet, would have been "perfect for displaying small figurines and dolls," althoiugh he finally decides on a vintage piece Bill Clinton used to store "the disembodied brains of his political opponents during his presidency." (blah blah)
PHOTOFUNIA--- www.photofunia.com
If you ever wondered how your face would look splashed across a huge billboard lording over a cityscape, then PhotoFunia should effectively erase all doubts. The site allows you to superimpose your own photo on more than 70 situational effects. You can have your face peering out from an old book with yellowing pages, looking down from an Armani Billboard or posted on the front page of a major daily (The Annadale Advocate; surely you musy have heard of it) You can even have your glam mug Andy Warhol-ed, plastered on a CD cover being toted by Paris Hilton, or even just looking smug on Madonna's chest. Have stupid fun and do what so many others do; POST IT ON FACEBOOK, FRIENDSTER, MULTIPLY (OR WHEREVER)
SEA OF SHOES--- http://seaofshoes.typepad.com
Jane Aldridge's site is probably the Sartorialist for the Twilight set. A 16 year old from Dallas, Jane pursues and post her rather developed appreciation for fashion on a blog called Sea of Shoes; only she takes picture of herself, friends, her mom and the sales associates at her fave designer stores. Her wardrobe would elicit what my rommate Anne calls "serious retail envy". Far from stepping out in the bubblegum pop tiny tees and logo-lized totes, Jane prefers the likes of Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten and Martin MArgiela. For "free dress day" in her school, she posts a photo of her wearing "silver brogues by Yohji Yamamoto" and a "polyester sheer skirt" from Comme des Garcons. Whatever happened to experimenting with Revlon lipstick and crushing on boys at 16?
MORPH THING--- www.morphthing.com
If you and Brad Pitt were to spawn a baby, how would it look? This online face morpher reveals if it will be a Shiloh look-alike or something out of a MadTV skit. Morph Thing is a time-waster for two things: its completely addictive (the Mona Lisa and Oprah, by the way just doesnt cut it) and it will take you ages to find a photo good enough for morphing. By good, they dont mean nice smiles or best angles. Check the site's Good Image Guide" to know which photos work best, essentialy face forward, no big smiles and no show of teeth (a photobooth photo on your worst days or a pouting portrait photo on your best.) I was finally able to morph my photo with that of Chris Tiu and this is all i have to say: it aint no Green Goblin.
THE MINI-MIZER--- www.reasonablyclever.com
How would you look Legolized? Block-y for sure. This site allows you to create a Lego version of yourself, allowing for options to change everything from hairstyles to clothing to background. Although choices arent as spoton on as those on the Wii's Mii feature, the Mini-mizer can still kill ev at least two hours, especially if you're trying to come up with a family portrait.
there will be blood
It isn't advisable to read this if you haven't already read all the books in the Twilight series and would rather not be spoiled. Also, don't read it if you actually like Twilight.
.
Mostly the fans are swept away by the "epic romance" between Edward and Bella. Although it is painful to admit, the first time I read Twilight (and the next two books New Moon and Eclipse), I fell a little in love with Edward Cullen too. Who wouldn't, on the first reading? Edward Cullen is physical perfection, with a century of knowledge and experience under his belt, mad piano skills, and a passion for Bella that borders on obsession. He's the quintessential bad boy you can never have, but still want anyway. The one that you, and only you, can transform with the power of your love into the kind of guy you can bring home to mom.
The second time around, though, I finally started to see what was wrong with the books. Aside from the bad writing, cheesy lines, and overuse of word "chagrin" that is. And did I mention the cheesy lines? (Everything I hated about the movie was taken verbatim from the book. " And so the lion fell in love with the lamb." SERIOUSLY?)
Bella Swan is essential a non-character. She has no personality to speak of, and her only remotely positive trait is an inclination towards self-sacrifice, which she takes to a new level of stupidity. It's good to care about the people you love, but to wantonly throw your life away 50 pages to save them is kind of ridiculous. Especially when the people you're trying to save are extremely powerful, immortal vampires who don't need saving, and can probably handle the situation better than you. And aside from her death wish, Bella also sacrifices everything she supposedly wants at the beginning of the series (an education, independence) for Edward, and then neglects pretty much everyone around her who isn't undead.
Bella is a blank template, specifically so that you can put yourself in her shoes and imagine that it's you in the relationship with the vampire who struggles with his urge to kill you every five seconds. How tragically romantic.
Speaking of the vampire, Edward Cullen is a stalker. No matter how preternaturally beautiful you are, if I wake up in the middle of the night and you are standing in a corner of my room watching me sleep, I will not be amused. At all. Whether or not they are actually engaging in any sexual activities (and they aren't; 107 year old virgin remember?) it’s not cool that Edward spends every night in Bella's room behind her father's back. Is this really what young girls should be aspiring for?
Edward Cullen is a controlling boyfriend who doesn't seem to think that Bella is mature enough to tell her the truth about what goes around her. "No, there aren't any evil vampires coming to kill you, we're just going out of town this weekend to visit your mom for the heck of it." He's the kind of guy who will cut your brakes to keep you from going to visit your best friend, who is apparently too dangerous for you to be spending time with. Why? Because he's a werewolf.
Right, because Bella's not already sucking face with a bloodsucker.
What really boggles the mind is why the two are even together in the first place. Edward is fascinated with Bella because inspite of his mind-reading abilities, he can't hear her thoughts. Bella thinks he is the most beautiful creature to walk the planet. They both like Debussy's Clair de Lune. Other than that, they have no mutual interests. There is no actual basis for a relationship. It's pure infatuation. He saves her from would be rapists, takes her to dinner, and suddenly, they're head over heels in love with each other.
On a less serious but equally hilarious note, when Edward Cullen is hit by sunlight, he sparkles. Like Tinkerbelle. Sparkles vampires. I don't know what you've read or seen on TV or in movies, but all the vampires I know of burn in sunlight. None of them twinkle.
The biggest problem I have with Twilight isn't that it only starts to develop an actual plot after well over 200 pages, or anything else I've written above. It isn't even the sparkling, as ridiculous sands of girls are reading this book. this series, and wishing for something impossible that they shouldn't even want in the first place.
They're setting themselves up for disillusionment. The likes of Edward Cullen don't exist in the world we live in. I don't think that's what love is. Bella Swan is the new Disney Princess, and Edward is the new Prince Charming.
You know, Prince Charming in Snow White was necrophiliac. I'm just saying.

happy 2009!!!!

2008 will surely be marked as a milestone year for many. There are so many memorable events that occurred and some not so memorable ones. Let's take a look at some highlights of the past year.

Cyclone hits Burma and kills about 100,000.

Philippine Peso broke the 50:1 barrier to the dollar.
Oil prices reached $147 per barrel

Cancer victim Randy Pausch gave life lessons, via YouTube, to millions. He died in July.
Russia invades Georgia causing global anxiety.
OJ Simpson is sentenced again for robbing a hotel in Las Vegas.

The Dark Knight grosses $988 million and makes Hollywood's 4th biggest hit in history.
New York Giants, with quarterback Eli Manning, upset undefeated New England Patriots in the NFL Superbowl.

Usain Bolt set another world record by winning both the 100-m and 200-m sprints in world-record times.

And lastly, my favorite, Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles defeats arch-rival de la Salle Green Archers in the 71st season of the UAAP. :)
Obviously 2008 was a great year for sports but it also hosted some tragic events. I guess at this point in time, we just have to be grateful to the Lord for all the blessings that have come our way during the past year. And at the same time, it is a time to reflect and learn from the lessons of the past in the hopes of improving ourselves, our country and our relationships with people and most of all, with God for the coming year. Let us make 2009 another milestone year! Happy New Year to you all! :)
